Nathaniel hoping for Town result at Wolves

Saturday's trip to Wolves promises to be a trip down memory lane for Shrewsbury Town's on loan winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

The Peterborough United loanee, who came on as a sub in Tuesday night's 1-1 draw with Crawley, started his career at Wolves and knows many of the players likely to face Town this weekend.

"I've played with a lot of them apart from the new players obviously," said Mendez-Laing. "I had a good time at Wolves. I was quite young but they're good memories.

"I've played against them quite a few times and when they came to Peterborough earlier this season I actually won the free kick which we scored from so I've had a bit of banter with them about that."

Mendez-Laing has been interested to see how several young players he grew up with at Molineux have now been given a chance in the first team. It's left him thinking what might have happened had he decided to stay at Wolves.

He said: "As a young lad I didn't really have the right guidance. I just wanted to play first team football.

"Peterborough put two bids in year after year and I just thought the second time I just wanted to go and play whereas maybe if I had waited my chance would have come, you never know, but everything happens for a reason."

Mendez-Laing knows this will be a tough game for Town with Wolves top of the table after winning their last nine games and he's been impressed with how well Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has done this season.

"He's doing a great job there," he said. "Lads have come up from my age group like Jack Price, a very good player in midfield, Danny Batth's been solid this season at the back, Stearman's playing there, young lads like Ethan Landell, McAlinden, Dave Davis, there's a lot of good talent there.

"They're obviously on a good run at the moment but they're not unbeatable so hopefully we can go there and do the job."
