Town’s chance to finish their Midland’s Youth Cup campaign on a high ended at the final hurdle with a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Lincoln City in the final.

Town started well and looked bright from the first whistle and their early play was rewarded with a goal from Dave Easthope after 8 minutes.  Lincoln hit back but Easthope was on the scoresheet again with a superb long range effort to put Town back in front.

Lincoln once again hit back and the game was tied 2-2 at the break.

After the restart if was Lincoln who looked the more hungry and they really took the game to Town.  The visitors looked the more likely to take the cup and two more goals during the half made sure that it was Lincoln who went home as Midland Youth Cup champions.

After the game Academy Manager Steve Reece shared his thoughts on the game:”It was a smart performance for the first 30 minutes where we were very bright, played the ball around well and kept it well.

“In the second half Lincoln put us under extreme pressure which out us on the back foot and we didn’t see much of the ball.

“We are disappointed with the result in the end for the boys and for everyone concerned.

"We now look forward to our next Alliance League game against Burnley at the Shrewsbury Sports Village with an 11am kick-off.”
