Girls Come Out In Force To Support Community Football Festival
On the 8th of May 2014, Shrewsbury Town Community Trust in association with the Shropshire FA led a Girls Football Festival before the England Ukraine match. Many local schools were invited to enter teams into the tournament held at STFC Powerleague pitches. There was a great response from over 16 schools who entered 25 teams, teams played a number of 5 minute games with the emphasis on fun and participation in the game of football. After the tournament each girl was given a FA goody bag and certificate for taking part. Andrew Bradbury Community Officer for Shrewsbury Town said ‘ It was fantastic to see so many teams of girls turn up and we have had an overwhelming response to the tournament. You can see by just walking around and watching the girls play with smiles on their faces, also by talking to parents and teachers that is was a great experience and everyone had a great time playing football without caring about the outcome of the games’.
It is a very exciting time for female football after the England Ukraine game as Shrewsbury Town Community Trust are re launching the Female Development Squads starting the 12th June. All squads will have their own STFC training Kit and match day kit and will be coached by a qualified Community Trust coach.
