Ex Peterborough Defender Joins Up With Micky
Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has completed his second signing of the week after bringing in central defender Nathaniel Knight-Percival.
The 27-year-old has spent the last two seasons with Peterborough United and lined up for Posh in the second leg of their recent League One play-off semi-final defeat at Leyton Orient.
He moved to London Road from Peterborough two years ago after Darren Ferguson's side had been promoted to the Championship.
He held down a regular place in the second tier during the 2012-13 season, making 33 appearances.
He played 23 times for Posh last season, scoring his first league goal at Swindon in January.
Knight-Percival started his career at Histon before spending two years at Wrexham where he was a regular.
Boss Mellon said: "He's a fantastic addition to the group. He's a lad I've known and admired for a long time. I've watched his progress at Peterborough and saw him playing in the play-off semi-finals in League One.
"I was hopeful and determined that I was going to get him in to add to the group and I'm delighted to get him in with the qualities he brings to the squad, his great pace, his ability on the football and he wants to get better.
"That's the main thing, that he wants to come here and improve."
Mellon added there was already healthy competition for places in the defensive area which he wants to get in all positions.
"There has to be that all over the pitch as that's hopefully how you get more out of the boys. If you've got good competition all over the pitch they know their performances have to be good otherwise they know there's somebody waiting just to step straight into their place."
Knight-Percival follows Ashley Vincent, the former Cheltenham winger, as the first signings Mellon has made since being appointed Town manager and he's hopeful more will soon follow.
He said: "I would like to get more but it's not always easy because of dealing with agents and finances and all the rest of it, but we've got players that we're speaking to at the minute and we have a plan for them all to come in and hopefully play a big part in an exciting season.
"It's starting to take shape but there's some more good work that I want to get done imminently. We're speaking to players and hopefully the fans can start to see the shape of the type of player that we're trying to bring to the football club."
