Town to face Premier League opposition

22 May 2014

West Brom visit the Greenhous Meadow on Tuesday 15th July

Premier League club West Bromwich Albion will visit the Greenhous Meadow to play Shrewsbury Town in an attractive pre-season friendly.

The Baggies will head to Shrewsbury on Tuesday, July 15 (7.45pm).
Town manager Micky Mellon, a former West Brom player, is pleased with the fixture and said further friendlies would be announced soon.
He said: "It's good to be playing the Baggies and nice to see my old club in the Premier League.

"It will be a good test for us early on and we know that we will be made to defend, to play against a team with such quality and tempo will give us an idea of where we are.

"What I don't want to do is go into pre-season games and learn nothing from them, I want to be able to see what work needs to be done so we can take that into training and fix it.
"There's a few others that are pencilled in but not absolute yet, but we expect them to happen as well.

"There's some good friendlies and opportunities for the fans to come and see hopefully the new players that we're trying to bring in and for the new players to work towards that first game of the season. I'm looking forward to it."
