GDC Girls Go To Wembley

Pre-match tournament at Powerleague Wembley

Shrewsbury Town's Girls Development Centre travelled down to Wembley Stadium to take part in a pre-match tournament at Powerleague Wembley on Sunday.

The tournament included teams such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham, and acted as the warm up before the England Ladies first game at Wembley against Germany Ladies.

The Girls were drawn in a group alongside Hull City, Hartlepool and Sheffield Wednesday, with the Girls losing one against Hull and winning two against Hartlepool and Sheffield Wednesday and ended up finishing second in the group.

The girls were able to take part in fan zone activities as well as meeting Women's Super League player Sophie Bradley.

After the tournament, the Girls were treated to a great Wembley experience and took in the game where Germany came out on top 3-0.

Aiden Wassell, the Community Sports Trust's health and inclusion officer, said: "It was a great day out and the girls really enjoyed it.

"It took us a little while into the first game against Hull, but against Hartlepool and Sheffield Wednesday we played very well.

"The experience of going to Wembley was second to non and the girls were really took the occasion in.

"I would like to thank all of the girls who came along in the rain as well as the parents and Tom Leather who came also and got drenched.

"However, it took nothing away from what was a great day.
