The managers thoughts after the Burton victory

Micky Mellon was proud of his side as they managed to overcome a resolute Burton Albion courtesy of a Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro goal.

Micky feels his side fully deserved the result:
“Full credit to the boys, they kept trying to pick that lock and eventually they got the win that they deserved. I don’t remember Burton having a chance so I wouldn’t say it was a tight game. We applied all the pressure and I always thought it was going to be us that would get the victory. The lads are very fit and they showed that with how they kept on going, I am delighted with the win.”
“Our strikers pressed very well. We have worked on that since Monday so I am glad they are transferring it from the training ground on to the pitch. Akpro stuck it in and you just had to look at the stadium’s reaction to see how big the win was for everyone.”

The win followed a disappointing result last time out at Exeter and Micky feels the result and clean sheet today was vital:
“It’s huge. We don’t hold back here. The three centre backs have defending fantastically today when they needed to.”
“Our home form is terrific. The respect teams are giving us here shows it. Burton don’t play with a back 5 often but they did against us today.”

Josh Passley joined the club last week and made an instant impact giving a quality performance that the manager was impressed with:
“Without exaggerating he must have put in 8 top draw crosses and I am disappointed that we couldn’t get on the end of them. They were as good as I have seen here. He is a great replacement for Jack who we lost midweek so we can keep moving forward.”

Town will be hoping to keep their FA cup run going after being drawn away at Preston. Micky says the team will enjoy the occasion and will get the result for the fans:
“It’s brilliant to get Preston. We will enjoy the game just like we try and enjoy every game. We will take our fantastic form into the game and try and get the win against them to pay back our fans who are fantastic. I don’t know who brought the big drum to the game today but he is welcome every week!”
