Mangan and Lawrence bring ten men back

A 95th-minute penalty from captain Liam Lawrence saw Shrewsbury Town win an incredible game at Dagenham Redbridge with ten men on Saturday.

Town had fallen behind to Billy Bingham's volley, which just crossed the line, after four minutes in the Sky Bet League 2 fixture and were a goal down at half-time.

But substitute Andy Mangan equalised with a stunning half-volley over goalkeeper Mark Cousins before the striker was fouled deep into injury time to earn the penalty which Lawrence converted.

FIRST HALF

Manager Micky Mellon made one change to the side which played in Tuesday night's Capital One Cup game against Chelsea at the Greenhous Meadow.

Lawrence replaced James Wesolowski in midfield, with Town playing their fourth game in the space of 12 days.

But it was Dagenham who took the lead in the fifth minute as Bingham volleyed Damian Batt's cross from the right across goal at the far post and the ball crossed Town's goal line despite defender Nathaniel Knight-Percival clearing from just behind the line.

There was little between either side before the break although a good chance fell to striker James Collins to level the score, when Lawrence squeezed in a cross from the left, but the former could not direct his header on target.

HALF-TIME: Dagenham & Redbridge 1-0 Shrewsbury Town

After his heroic equaliser in the game against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup, Mangan came on at the start of the second half but Town were reduced to ten men just four minutes after his arrival.

Defender Jermaine Grandison was shown a straight red card for pulling Ade Yusuff from behind when the striker was in on goal.

At the other end, Cousins in the Daggers' goal had to make a flying save to deny Bobby Grant.

Collins also saw two efforts denied by the hands of Cousins down low and a defender's block.

But Town managed to grab an equaliser when Grant dinked the balll over to the inside right for the run of Mangan before the latter smashed a half-volley first-time over Cousins and into the top left corner.

It was a stunner from Mangan, and Lawrence could have Town in front four minutes later when he looked to lob Cousins after the goalkeeper's punch away, but the keeper got back to deny the shot.

Both teams went in search of a winner, and Mangan had another big impact on the game by winning a penalty for a foul by Doe in the box, four minutes into added time.

Lawrence stepped up to calmly place the resulting penalty into the bottom right corner, sending Cousins the wrong way to give ten-man Town a memorable win on the road and, most importantly, three points in the league fixture.
