Woods Up For Walsall Clash

18 November 2014

Midfielder available for selection again

Midfielder Ryan Woods is back in contention to face Walsall in the FA Cup First Round replay tonight - and he's hopeful of getting a first win against the club which released him at 15.

The winner of tonight's clash at the Greenhous Meadow (7.45pm kick-off) will travel to face Preston North End at Deepdale in the Second Round of the competition on December 6.

And Woods, who is available for selection once again following a one-match suspension, insisted Town are well aware of the rivalry with the Saddlers and are up for the challenge.

“It's a derby for us so we have drilled into the new lads just how important it is to get a result," explained Woods.

"They now know what it is about and how important it is, and I personally would like to finally get a win against them."

Woods knows Town will have to perform better than they did in the reverse fixture at the Banks's Stadium, which finished 2-2.

But the midfielder is confident in the strength of the Shrews' squad.

“We got a 2-2 draw at their place but we didn’t perform very well so to come out with something is obviously a positive," said Woods.

“We have a great squad here this year which is proven when you come back and its very hard to get back in.

"That is because we have quality on the pitch, on the bench and even in the stands some weeks."

Woods did admit it was frustrating to watch on from the sidelines at the weekend but he is happy with his contribution so far this season.

He said: “Having five yellow cards gave me a one-game suspension, but I have played 22 games so far which is a good little total.

“I would have been more disappointed if I was on the sidelines due to performance.

“All it could have done is knock my rhythm, but I am going to make sure that does not happen."
