Ellis: Confidence Still There

Defender backing Town to come good again

Defender Mark Ellis believes Shrewsbury Town have been playing well despite recent form – and wants to take that positivity into Tuesday’s game against Carlisle United.

Town host the Cumbrian outfit at the Greenhous Meadow in Sky Bet League 2 (7.45pm kick-off) looking to return to winning ways after defeats at Hartlepool United and Stevenage.

Micky Mellon’s side dominated large parts of Saturday’s game at The Lamex Stadium but could not force a goal.

However Ellis, who featured in that game, feels Town’s recent performances suggest they can pick up the three points needed against Carlisle on Tuesday night.

“We’ve not been playing bad, so there’s no reason for the confidence to drop,” said Ellis.

“We’re playing well, creating good chances and we’ve just got to keep going and take it into Tuesday night.

“We’ve got to take the game to them, dominate it and go and win it.

“They’re similar to us because they’ve signed a lot of new players, but I like to think that we’ve gelled quite well.

“It might just be a thing with them they’ve not quite bonded yet and are still trying to work as a team.

“We’ve got to win as many home games as possible and try to pick up points away from home as well.”

The defender, who has recently returned from injury, is pleased to see Town creating chances and felt they had little luck in front of goal at the weekend.

“It’s good to be back (in the team) after a frustrating period,” said Ellis.

“We played some good stuff and created a lot of chances (on Saturday), it just didn’t go for us.

“It would have been a worry if we hadn’t been creating chances, just had to try and find the back of the net.”
