Lawrence: Let's Start Winning Again

Skipper calls for victory over Norwich

Captain Liam Lawrence insists Shrewsbury Town’s Capital One Cup Third Round game against Norwich City on Tuesday night is a chance to ‘get back to winning ways’.

Town host the Canaries at the Greenhous Meadow (7.45pm kick-off) looking to reach the last-16 of the competition and claim only their second victory in six matches.

“We need to get back to winning ways so we’re all looking forward to it,” said Lawrence.

“We want to win every game – that’s just how we are as a group. Hopefully we’ll put it right (against Norwich).

“It’s a big game for us against a very good Championship side. They were in the Premier League last season so it’s a good game for us.

“They’ve got some really good players but hopefully that will suit us and we can also do our stuff and get the ball down and play.

“Everyone’s addressed what we need to do to get back to winning ways.

“Any tie at home is a winnable tie and whatever team comes here we’ll always fancy ourselves.”

Town’s League Cup run so far has seen them knock out Championship side Blackpool and Premier League newcomers Leicester City.

And midfielder Lawrence believes good cup form can give the team confidence heading into league matches.

“It’s good for the fans and good for our confidence to take into the league (a cup run),” said Lawrence.

“Once you start winning in the cups, and you’re playing well, you to take it into the next game.

“There’s been some games where we’ve played really well, but we need to start turning some of the draws and the away games into wins, and we’ll be right up there.

“I do believe we’ll be right up there come the end of the season anyway, I’ve got no worries.”
