Under-18s reach Midland Youth Cup semi-final

Shrewsbury Town's youth team reached the semi-final of the Midland Youth Cup with a 13-goal blitz against Chasetown at the Greenhous Meadow on Wednesday night.

The goals were shared around the team, with both Kaiman Anderson and Josh Ginnelly getting four each, Kenton coming off the bench to get one and fellow substitutes Ethan Jones and George Hassall both getting two.

It means Town will compete in the semi-final of the competition with the date, time and venue of that fixture to be confirmed.

FIRST HALF

The young Shrews had more than enough chances to score the first goal before they did, with Wilson and Ginnelly both getting opportunites while Joel Carta hit the right post with a dipping shot from long range.

However, Town took the lead in the 23rd minute and never looked back, as Anderson smashed home from close range.

It soon became two just four minutes later when Ginnelly smashed a strike into the top right corner from outside the box.

Anderson then added a third in the 28th minute as he turned in the box and curled a left-footed strike across goal, finding the top corner, while Ginnelly found the fourth two minutes after that with a tap in from Jordan Wilson's low centre.

The fifth came in the 34th minute as Anderson went around Chasetown goalkeeper Shane Wood before tapping in to complete a first-half hat-trick, and the lead remained at five at the break.

HALF-TIME: Shrewsbury Town 5-0 Chasetown

Dawes' side wasted no time after following the interval and Ginnelly fired in low on the turn from close range, following Jeff Watkins' header from Niall Flint's corner, within just a minute of the restart to complete his hat-trick.

Anderson then added his fourth and Town's seventh only four minutes after with a low drive from inside the box.

The lead became eight when substitute Joe Kenton got in on the act by firing a low bullet shot into the bottom corner, and fellow substitute Ethan Jones added a ninth with strike from the left in the 70th minute.

Two minutes later, Jones had his second by firing low into the net from a central position, while Ginnelly got his fourth and Town's 11th with 15 minutes left.

And the final two goals came from substitue George Hassall, meaning Town have set up a semi-final fixture - date, time and venue to be confirmed.
