Jayson Happy With Record And First Man Of The Match

York cleansheets gives Town cleansheet league record

Jayson Leutwiler was delighted to get the Man Of The Match award for his performance in the home win against York. The Swiss stopper has helped Shrewsbury to a record amount of clean sheets for the season but the 25 year old acknowledged the key role the defence has played in achieving the accolade:
“It was really hard today. York played really well in the second half but we managed to get the win and it is crucial for us in our quest for promotion, the whole team played really well.”

“I am thrilled to have got the man of the match award. I made a few saves today and I thought I played well but so did the rest of the lads. It’s my first man of the match of the season so I am very happy. I don’t really play for personal awards I just play to win but it’s very nice to get it all the same.”

The former Basel and Switzerland U20 keeper has impressed since joining Shrewsbury last summer after he was released by Middlesbrough and now has the club record for the most clean sheets in a season, however he insists the most important thing at the minute is to stay focused on promotion:
“I am very proud of our record. It is my first season In England when I am a regular starter so it’s great to get that achievement. It wasn’t just me though our defence is crucial to that record, you need to have a solid defence like ours to get clean sheets.”

“Cheltenham next week is a massive game for us, we will be striving for the three points there because we want promotion as soon as possible.”
