Micky Mellon Pre Mansfield Town

5 April 2015

Gaffer looking forward to another tough away challenge

After the Good Friday win at home to Dagenham & Redbridge Micky Mellon’s focus now turns to the Easter Monday trip to Mansfield Town.

The win kept Town in second place in League 2 but with both Burton and Wycombe dropping points our position is looking good going into Monday’s game.

A point now separate Town and Burton and after another clean sheet on Friday Town will be looking to keep another one and give themselves a great chance to pick up more points.

Micky Mellon is looking for his side to build on the Dagenham win and continue to pick up points with the finish line starting to come up:”As we have said many times any victory at this time of the season is huge as you know we are starting to run out of games.

“It’s important to keep our focus and like we say take one half at a time, the lads are doing that and we now move into another important game.”

The Dagenham game saw a good performance, two Connor Goldson goals and another clean sheet for Jayson Leutwiler and his defence:”A lot of our season has been built around keeping cleansheets and that is the way we will continue to approach games.

“We won’t take our focus off what we believe has got us into this fantastic league position.

“Everyone is doing things right at the moment and remaining focused and we are enjoying our football.”

The focus now moves to the trip to Mansfield Town and like every game in this division it will be another tough test.  Town will be travelling overnight to miss the Bank Holiday traffic but also to help preparations for the early kick-off:”We don’t really get Easter weekends off, we are all about getting the lads refreshed and ready for the next challenge which is Mansfield.

“We will train today then travel over to Mansfield, and stay overnight.  It’s not something we would normally do but with the early kick-off, the times the players would need to eat and the Bank Holiday traffic we are grateful we can do this to give ourselves the best chance to get a result.

“With Mansfield you know it’s going to be a tough game, all games in this league are and are different challenges and away on an Easter Monday is always going to be hard.

“We go there knowing it will be a tough challenge but we will go there and continue to do the things that have got us into this position.

“We do look at the opposition and their dangers, but the focus is always on ourselves first making sure we perform.  We will look at set-plays or other things that maybe the dangers but also anyway we can use that and what we can do.”

Town will once again be backed by a large away following of around 800 who will be doing their best to roar their side onto victory.  The Gaffer has praised the fans over the season and wants his side to give the travelling faithful something back:”The away support has been terrific and the lads really appreciate that, we all do.

“It’s great to see them enjoy themselves at the away games and when they come and watch us we always know we have to put on a performance that represents them.

“We will go out there and fight hard to hopefully give them a great afternoon and a safe journey home.”

Going into the game Micky looks to have a full squad available for selection with no new problems following the Dagenham win.  He also has a number of options that he can bring in should he see any tired bodies in training today:”We will have a look to see how everyone one is when they come in for training this afternoon.

“No one has reported in with anything yet and we will look at the energy levels in training and if anything sticks out but hopefully we will have the full squad available for selection.

“Everyone is here to play so if we believe someone will give us a better chance of winning the game then we will pick them.”
