“We have been given seven days together so it’s important we utilise that time well and get to know them as individuals.”

“The primary objective during this meet up has been to get to know the players as well as possible.

“There is a wide range of talent within the squad and it is up to us to try and push them and to give them opportunities,” said Downing.

Southampton forward Ryan Seager also becomes the latest player from the Saints youth academy to receive international recognition with his maiden call-up.

He was then snapped up by the Blades, before he had chance to feature in their win over Estonia in Halifax.

Sheffield United forward Che Adams is also selected and will be hoping to finally pull on an England shirt having previously been called up for England C last November when he was playing for Ilkeston Town.

Along with those familiar to the England set-up, defender Mason Holgate, who joined Everton from Barnsley this summer, is included in a Three Lions squad for the first time.

A number of players included featured at U19s level last season and have also represented the Young Lions at U18 level.

And new coach Downing has selected a 20-man squad for the game, which takes place on Monday 7 September following an earlier game against the same opposition behind-closed-doors at St. George’s Park.

They get their season underway early next month with a match against Czech Republic at Shrewsbury Town’s Greenhous Meadow.

The first England Under-20s squad for the new campaign has been named by interim head coach Keith Downing.
