Micky On Pre-season

Boss Happy To Have Home Comforts

Shrewsbury manager Micky Mellon insists there was no need to travel far beyond the Shropshire border during pre-season, asking the question ‘Why would you want to leave here’?

Town entertained three Championship sides in Cardiff (2-2), Birmingham City (0-2) and Wolves (1-1) and travelled to Market Drayton (6-0), Kidderminster Harriers (0-2) and recently relegated Tranmere Rovers (1-4) and Micky was more than happy with what his side have taken from their pre-season campaign.

“We’ve played very well and got answers to a lot of the questions that we felt we needed to get answers too,” said Micky.

“We’ve been able to try different things in the games and move on from them. We’ve done things in training and tried to put them into the games against some really top class opposition so you’d have to say pre-season has been very worthwhile.

“You can see now there’s a massive difference from day one where it was like the first day at school. They’ve now all gelled as a group so obviously that will get better and better as time goes on and I’m delighted with where we are as a group at the minute.”

And when asked if he would have liked to have followed other team’s preparations in going abroad for their season preparations, Micky was straight to the point.

“We love Shrewsbury so there’s no reason to leave,” added Micky. “You only leave somewhere if you don’t like it so we’re quite happy being in Shrewsbury and Shropshire. It’s a fantastic place to be and we’ve enjoyed doing our pre-season in Shropshire.”
