Grandison On His Chance To Start

10 February 2015

Defender Speaks Ahead Of Carlisle Clash

  • Grandison looking to push for place in the starting line-up
  • Defender came on for the injured Knight-Percival on Saturday
  • He insists it's vital to get three points at Carlisle
Defender Jermaine Grandison admits he's gutted for Nathaniel Knight-Percival following his injury - but insists now is his chance to force his way back into the Shrewsbury Town starting line-up.

"We've got to go there and win it. We didn't play the best on Saturday. Going to Carlisle gives us the chance to put it right and get three points." And looking ahead to the Carlisle game, Grandison added:

"We want to win the league and I think we're the best team in the league," he said.

"We've got great players and I think we can do it."

But Grandison feels the squad is good enough to surpass it's aim on automatic promotion by actually winning the League Two title.

Town sit third in the league table following the draw with Phil Brown's side at the weekend.
"Sadly (the injury is) for Nathaniel and we're not sure what's happened," said Grandison.

"It's my time now to come in and do my bit for the team and do well.

"I've been raring to go for weeks and I've just got to take my chance now.

"At the start of the season I had a good little spell where I was back playing. I was enjoying it until I got a little back injury.

"I'm back now and raring to go.

"All of the defenders we have got are capable of defending well and we've got good competition so that, if you don't do well, you could go out of the team. It keeps us on our toes.

"I want to score a few more goals, especially from set-pieces. I'm quite a big guy so I need to get on the end of a few."

Town take on Carlisle United in Sky Bet League 2 next at Brunton Park (7.45pm kick-off), and Grandison says he is raring to go if selected.

Knight-Percival was forced to withdraw from Saturday's 1-1 draw with Southend United through injury in the 35th minute, with Grandison his replacement.
