Gaffer pleased to add Tyrone Barnett to his squadManager Micky Mellon is delighted that Shrewsbury were able to bring in bring in Peterborough United striker Tyrone Barnett on deadline day.
The experienced striker has joined the club on a two and half year deal for an undisclosed fee after choosing Town despite interest from a number of other clubs.
And Micky is sure Barnett’s strength and eye for goal could be crucial in the last 18 games of the season as Town continue their promotion push.
He said: “I am really pleased to get him in, he had options to go to other clubs but said no I want to go to Shrewsbury which is always nice.
“He is a major competitor and in the 18-yard box he will represent us really well,
"He will get hold of the ball, he is a real man and he brings different qualities to an already very strong group and the fans will know we have worked really hard to secure a quality addition.
“We have the momentum with us at the minute and we felt if the was a player we would work to bring him to the football club and I think Tyrone fits that.
And Micky was thrilled by the work the people behind the scenes had conducted to get the deal through.
Micky said: “We are delighted with the signing, but what I have got to say is the support I have had from the chairman to get the signing has been first class.
“We are always working hard to improve it and I have a chairman who will back me and will and listen to my ideas and if explain what I want to do and why he will back me if he can.
“All the work going on behind the scenes from Jayne and Matt has been fantastic because these things are not easy, they are complicated to get done so to get a guy up here from Peterborough and do it as professionally as we have done is fantastic.
