It was Carlisle who had the best of the early chance and it was with less than a minute on the clock, a corner was swung over and Gayle got a head in to half clear, it dropped to Rigg who hit in a low shot but Leutwiler was there with a smart dive to tip it round the post.

Carlisle were looking strong in the opening exchanges and were taking the game to Town, they managed to break through the Town defence and get in on the Town goal but Leutwiler was out quickly to smoother but the offside flag had already been raised.

Town's best early chance came with 15 minutes on the clock when Ellis played a low ball out of defence to Grant on the edge of the Carlisle box, he turned his marker and then fed Gayle who in turn hit a good cross into the box that Lawrence met with a first time volley but it was wide of the mark.

It was Carlisle creating the better chances and they had a number of shots that were blocked well but the Town defence, the ball then back out to Anthony Griffith who drove in an excellent long range shot that had Leutwiler beaten but it hit the underside of the bar and came back out and Town cleared their lines.

Town had a couple of half decent openings on the Carlisle goal with first Collins hitting in a low shot after good work to set him up by Gayle and moments later Lawrence did well to set up Barnett who drove in a low shot but Hanford was down quickly to collect.

With half-time approaching Town had a good opening after Woods played a lovely ball between the Carlisle defence to put Gayle in behind, he took the ball forward and then looked to get a cross into the back post to set-up Barnett but a Carlisle foot got there to block.

It was Carlisle who had the last chance of the half and it was a good one, a corner was whipped in and Town cleared but only as far as Meppen-Walter who hit a lovely curling shot to the far top corner but Leutwiler was equal to it with a great save at full stretch to tip it over.

Half-time: 0-0

The second half started with a change of personnel for Town with Scott Vernon coming on to replace Cameron Gayle and a change of formation with Town switching to a back four.

Town had a number of decent chances in the opening minutes of the half with Collins, Barnett and Grant all having good chances, the best dropped to Goldson who drilled in a good header from a corner but Carlisle had a player in the right place to clear off the line.

Town had a great chance to take the lead after James Collins pounced on a bad pass between the Carlisle defence, he drove in on goal and kept his run going into the box, he held off the challenge of the defender who was trying to get back, he then cut the ball on to his right and curled in a low shot but Hanford did well to stick out a foot to block, Lawrence was free to the right and maybe a pass would have been a better option.

It was Carlisle who took the lead, a corner was cleared by Town but only to the edge of the box, it was then looped back over the Town defence who were pushing out but Charlie Wyke had read it well and ran back into the box and clipped a shot past Leutwiler who got a hand to it but it wasn't enough to keep the ball out.

It was end to end stuff at times and Town had a good chances after Lawrence drove and a ball in that Vernon directed goal wards but again Hanford was there to save. Then Carlisle had their turn and should really have gone 2-0 up, substitute Kerans played a ball to put Amoo in on the Town goal, he kept his run going and then burst into the box, he turned Goldson and then laid a ball back to set-up a shot but luckily for Town it was blasted over the bar.

Micky Mellon made his final changes with Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro on to replace Tyrone Barnett and then later Jordan Clark was brought on to replace Bobby Grant. Clark nearly made an instant impact with a good delivery to the near post to find Akpa Akpro who got a header in but It was over the bar from a tight angle.

Town were pushing for the equaliser but this was leaving space that Carlisle were looking to counter attack in, it was making for an exciting game at times but was probably a little bit too open.

Town were still creating chances and good work between Clark, Vernon and Collins saw the ball come to Collins on the edge of the box, he turned smartly and then curled in a good looking shot that was on it's was to the top corner until a Carlisle head got in to head behind.

Town have shown this season that they don't give up on a game and with a couple of minutes to go it looked like an away defeat for Town, but no.

Town kept pushing and when a Demetriou throw was headed back out it dropped to Vernon and he hit in a lovely dipping volley but Hanford was there to tip the ball behind for a Town corner. This was floated into the Carlisle box and there was Mickey Demetriou to rise the highest and head home to make it 1-1.

Carlisle looked to get back at Town but it was the visitors who hit back, Akpa Akpro picked up the ball and drove forward, he then cut the ball back to find Collins in space in the box and he smashed the ball home to give Town a 2-1 away win.

Full-time: 2-1
