“I have never played at Newport before but I have seen videos on them," said Woods
"They gave us a really good go when they came here so we will go there expecting a tough game.
"We will have the confidence that we can win the game. We have started demanding more of each other away from home and the form has picked up as a result of that."
The trip to Rodney Parade at the weekend will be a first for Woods and he is expecting a tough test against Justin Edinburgh's side, who held Town to a goalless draw at the Greenhous Meadow in September.
“I think I have a great deal to learn still," said the midfielder.
"There is a lot of experience in our midfield and I’m hoping that will rub off on me.
“The aim is to get Shrewsbury back into League One and I am focused on that.”
Woods has only been playing professional football for two years and feels he has a lot still to learn.
“I just don’t seem to be getting the chances in front of goal," said Woods.
"I keep pushing for a goal and it's frustrating but I will keep trying my best.
"I think because I get doubled up on a lot by defenders it allows the rest of the boys to get free and score the goals."
However, the 21-year-old is now looking to start getting on the scoresheet, with Shrews' trip to Rodney Parade in Sky Bet League 2 on Saturday (3pm kick-off) the perfect starting point.
The midfielder has missed just one game all season for Town - the 2-0 win at home to Mansfield in November - and has put in a number of star performances in the centre of the pitch.
Midfielder Ryan Woods is hoping to start adding goals to his game during the second half of the season - starting with Shrewsbury Town's trip to Newport County on Saturday.
