Skitt named FMA League 2 member of the year
There have been more awards for Shrewsbury Town with club physiotherapist Chris Skitt picking up the Football Medial Association members award for League 2.
The FMA is the body that represents the medical and science personnel within the professional football game. They held their annual awards at their end of season conference which was held this year at the Radisson Blu, East Midlands.
One part of the evening is the awards where medical and science professionals all vote on who they think should be awarded with the prestigious members award. This year that award went to Skitty after being nominated by his colleagues in Sky Bet League 2.
“It was great to get the members award but it is an award for the entire medical and science team’s efforts and not just an award for me”, said Skitty.
“The award is a special one as it is voted for by your peers and you can't get better recognition than that of the people who do the same job as you.
“It is always a field that is rapidly changing and we try our best to take up new ways of thinking and ideas, this in turn will help the players to be at their optimum fitness levels when it comes to matchday.
“As I have said many times before the best approach for a physio is a preventive one whereby we work with the players to make sure they are fit and strong. This is achieved by looking at everyone’s individual training programme and making sure we work to make them better.
“Last season was a long and ultimately successful season and to have received this award tops that season off nicely.
“But that is now gone and our focus is now on this season and making sure that we approach it in the right way and make it another successful one.
We will continue to strive for excellence within the Sports Medicine department and ensure come the start of the season we will be as physically robust as possible.”
