"It's good that the club are always so keen to support school events and both Mark and Shaun were very enthusiastic. It was great to see the interaction between the students and the players."

He added: "The students were delighted to have the players visit as special guests and it was great that the players were so involved with the assembly.

Kris Dobson, the head of PE at the Grange School, said the school were delighted to welcome two members of Micky Mellon's squad at such a busy stage of pre-season for the club.

Goalkeeper Halstead and winger Whalley, a recent signing from Luton, handed out certificates of achievement to the students in a full school assembly held on the last day of term.

Shrewsbury Town duo Mark Halstead and Shaun Whalley proved popular guests at Shrewsbury's Grange Secondary School when they called in for the summer term achievement assembly.
