PREVIEW: Town v Birmingham City

21 July 2015

Look Ahead To The Friendly At Greenhous Meadow

Birmingham city travel to Greenhous Meadow on the back of a 1-1 draw with Kidderminster Harriers needing a late equaliser from triallist Shane Lowery.

City have already released the squad members to travel to Shrewsbury and there are a few faces that we might recognise.

Striker Clayton Donaldson is a man who has played against Shrewsbury for Crewe and Brentford but has yet to score against us.

Similarly, ex-Burton Midfielder Jacques Maghoma has played against us for Burton but hasn't hit the back of the net.

Full Birmingham City squad: Kuszczak, Trueman, Eardley, Cogley, Lowry, Grounds, Spector, Harding, Cotterill, Gleeson. Cooper, Arthur, Brown, Maghoma, Thomas, Donaldson, Jones, O’Neill, McFarlane.

The Manager

Gary Rowett cut his management teeth at Burton Albion, acting as assistant, caretaker and Manager over five years at the club. His last couple of seasons in charge of Albion were quite successful ones and he left with promotion yet to be won to join Birmingham who he played for at the end of the last century. Blues form immediately improved when Rowett took over the reins to the Birmingham club in late October. They went on to achieve their highest position of the season on the last day, finishing tenth after three consecutive wins in their last three games.

New Boys

So far, City have signed young striker Alex Jones from West Brom (May), midfielder Jacques Maghoma from Sheff Wed, goalkeeper Adam Legzdins from Orient (both in June)and fellow keeper Tomas Kuszczac (in early July.

Prediction

Personally I don’t really worry about the score in friendly games although it is always nice to see a couple of goals. What I'm really looking for is how the new players settle in, what sort of partnerships they look to be developing that could help us and possible hints as to how we will play in the coming season. I'd like to see some goals as I've said and a clean sheet would be good too, we got used to them last season and it's something I hope we will try and reproduce next term.
Shrewsbury Town 2-0 Birmingham City.

And don’t forget that kick off is at 19.30pm tomorrow evening, not the 19.45pm that we're used to in the season.
