PREVIEW: Town v Tranmere Rovers

31 July 2015

Look ahead to the final pre-season game

It's time once again for a pre-season friendly and this time we travel to the Wirral for a game against a team who went in the opposite direction to us last season. Tranmere Rovers are now a conference team and that doesn't feel right at all. I'm pretty sure that they will be back in the Football League soon as they're too big a side to be languishing there for too long. As a supporter of a team that's been there themselves I can only suggest that they sit back and enjoy the ride until normality is resumed.
Like our own Mr Mellon, Tranmere manager Gary Brabin has swept through the club like a new broom, moving many of last season’s players on and bringing in a hatfull. There are far too many to list here but one of them is one time Shrewsbury player Andy Mangan. He was both popular and invaluable last season and I think he's going to score plenty of goals in the Conference.

Prediction
I have a feeling that Rovers will be up for this one and make it very difficult for us. Their first game of the season is just a week ago and is against Conference stalwarts Woking and they need to be prepared to be every other team’s cup final. This is their last friendly this year and it's also ours so I expect what we will see is two teams putting the finishing touches to their first team. I imagine that we may see players who haven't yet had much game time so that they're match fit for the weekend.
