Pre-Season Begins

26 June 2015

The summer break is over and it's back to work for the players

Summer is now over for the Micky Mellon, his staff and players as they return to the Greenhous Meadow to start pre-season training.

A number of new faces will join ones from last season as the manager looks to prepare his new look squad for the challenge of the Sky Bet League 1.

The work has been going on to prepare a programme that will see the squad hit full fitness when the season kicks off on Saturday 8th August at home to Millwall.

“Pre-season training has all been planned by the fitness staff Chris Skitt and Andy Hodgen, and myself and Jacko. We have put a programme of games together that we believe will get the lads fit and raring to go to hit the ground running in that first game of the season against Millwall”, said Micky Mellon.

The Town manager has been hard at work since the end of last season with the recruitment to his squad.  There have been a number of new faces added but Micky would like to add a striker in if possible:”“I would maybe like to squeeze a striker in if possible but I’ve got to say I’m delighted with the squad I’ve got.
“We’ve worked really hard from the chairman, who’s been brilliant, right the way down with Matt Williams, myself and Mike Jackson to put this together.
“We’re really pleased with the quality of players we’ve got in and we’re really excited about going into League One now and trying to make an impact.”

Micky was quick to praise the backing and support that chairman Roland Wycherley has given him.
The two have been in constant contact over the summer about the recruitment and both are excited about the season ahead:“I have absolutely always had the backing of my chairman and he’s always been interested in what I’m trying to do.
“He’s always keen to know from the outset what my plans are and he’s backed me to do that.
“He knows what I want to continue to do and he’s happy and excited with those plans and he will continue to back me because he wants me to keep the playing side moving forwards.
“He’s always been a great support to me and has always encouraged me with all the ideas I want to bring in and is happy to go along with them.
“Everyone at the club is really into what we’re trying to do.
“We’re delighted to have brought in the players we have - they’re all really good and have great mentalities.
