A good month for Town ends with first win at Fratton Park

March

Shrewsbury’s up-and-down form of recent weeks continued into March as they opened the month with a 2-1 win at Accrington but then had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Cambridge United (the visitors equalising deep into injury time) and a 1-0 loss at promotion rivals Wycombe.

The return to full fitness of captain Liam Lawrence was to prove pivotal though, and he was back in the starting line-up for the trip to Morecambe. Town went behind to a Jack Redshaw goal but hit back with four of their own to record their most emphatic away win of the season.

Lawrence’s importance was underlined again as he scored twice in the 2-0 home win over Oxford United.

And Town ended the month on a high as two goals from loan star Bobby Grant sealed a 2-0 win at Portsmouth. It was an historic result as Shrewsbury had lost on all 10 of their previous visits to Fratton Park.
