FULL-TIME: Accrington Stanley 2-1 Shrewsbury Town

But there was to be no equaliser for Shrewsbury as they suffered a narrow defeat.

Mathew Jones also curled a free-kick at mid-height from the edge of the box straight at the Accrington goalkeeper with two minutes of normal time remaining.

Town applied more pressure on the Accrington goal in the final 20 minutes and Grogan saw a header at the far post fly wide after getting up well to meet Gallagher's corner on the right.

Webb then looked for his hat-trick with a neat bit of skill inside the penalty area before seeing a low volley to the near post well held by Bannister.

At the other end, Hartley hooked over a half-volley from the edge of the box.

Dawes' side looked for an equaliser after the break and within three minutes of the restart Gallagher stung the hands of Stanley goalkeeper Jack Little with a powerful strike from almost 30 yards out.

HALF-TIME: Accrington Stanley 2-1 Shrewsbury Town

There was one opportunity for Town at the end of the first period to find an equaliser from a set-piece, but Jacob Rammell skied a free-kick over the bar.

Webb then grabbed his and Stanley's second in the 40th minute as he volleyed first-time into the bottom left corner from just inside the penalty area from Hartley's high cross on the left.

Accrington attacked down the left and Ogle pulled back a cross for Webb just outside the six-yard box and the striker planted a header into the bottom left corner.

Reagen Ogle and Jack Hartley also tried their luck from long range for the hosts to little effect, but the hosts did find an equaliser in the 34th minute.

Accrington's first chance arrived in the 22nd minute when Reuben Dass burst down the inside right and skipped past the sliding challenge of Grogan before seeing a high, fierce shot across goal superbly saved one-handed by Bannister.

Chris Gallagher sent a high corner from the left towards the far post and Grogan saw his first header blocked before sending a bullet into the far corner at the second attempt from just outside the six-yard box.

Town got the game underway on a soggy Harrison Playing Fields pitch and took the lead in just the fifth minute.

FIRST HALF

Head of Academy coaching Ian Dawes made three changes to the side which lost to Ilkeston in the FA Youth Cup, with goalkeeper Charlie Bannister, defender Joel Bonner and midfielder Jacob Rammell all coming into the starting line-up.

TEAM NEWS

The young Shrews fought to find a late equaliser but it wasn't to be, and the hosts picked up all three points on the day.

Despite taking an early lead through a Callum Grogan header at Harrison Playing Fields, a brace from Stanley's Nathan Webb in the first half turned the game around.

Shrewsbury Town slipped to a narrow defeat at Accrington Stanley in the Football League Youth Alliance - North West league on Friday afternoon.
