Town's squad travelled to Wigan with a strong looking team for their latest Final Third Development League game. A win and a draw had seen Town start their campaign in decent form and they were looking to continue that.
The visitors piled on the pressure in the early exchanges but couldn't take any of the early chances. As the half progressed Wigan came more and more into the game and Town had keeper Shaun Rowley to thank for making sure the score was 0-0 at the break.
In the second half Town rarely threatened the Latics goal and it was the visitors who were the busier of the two defences.
In the end the home sides pressure paid off and they hit Town with three goals in a 13 minute spell. The deadlock was broken from the penalty spot after Sam Patterson was adjudged to have fouled in the box, and after that Town quickly found themselves 3-0 down.
Wigan continued to put the pressure on and a fourth goal just before full-time sealed a comfortable win the homeside.
