Vernon & Whalley On Target In FTDL Win


Two goals from professional Scott Veron and one for fellow pro Shaun Whalley gave the Shrews the win at Colliers Park Training Ground.

Shrewsbury Town began their Final Third Development League - West Division fixture list with victory at Wrexham on Wednesday afternoon.
Vernon was sent through into the Wrexham box inside four minutes and the former Aberdeen man calmly fired the ball passed the advancing Liam Sharpe.

Wrexham did pull two back with Jordan Davies' deflected free-kick off George Hughes and a Jonathan Royle strike from close range, but Shrewsbury held on to run out as 3-2 winners in the end.

Whalley then added a third after the break as McAlidnen again crossed from the left with Whalley finishing into an empty net from six yards on the half-volley.

Vernon then added a second, following good link-up play down the left, as he finished off Liam McAlinden's cross into the bottom right corner, sending Town in at half-time with a 2-0 lead.
