Hassall & Wilson Goals Give Under-18s Victory

Goals from George Hassall and Jordan Wilson fired Shrewsbury Town's youth team to a convincing win over Bury on Saturday morning.

Hassall struck with just 26 seconds on the clock before Wilson added a further two to give Town's Under-18s all three points in the Football League Youth Alliance - North West league clash at Shrewsbury Sports Village.

TEAM NEWS

Head of Academy coaching Ian Dawes made three changes to the side which beat Scunthorpe United 2-0 in the Youth Alliance Cup a week before.

Shaun Rowley played in goal following Harry Lewis' move to Southampton.

Chris Gallagher made his first appearance following international clearance in midfield, while George Hassall replaced injured striker Ethan Jones in attack.

FIRST HALF

Shrewsbury made the perfect start as Hassall opened the scoring with only 26 seconds on the clock.

The striker collected Mathew Jones' long ball forward on the left before firing into the far right corner.

At the other end, Bury's first chance arrived in the seventh minute but Will Oscathorpe fired straight at goalkeeper Rowley from the left.

Town then doubled their lead in the 11th minute as Jack Butts set the ball back for Chris Gallagher on this right, his superb crossed picked out Wilson inside the penalty area and the latter headed low into the bottom right corner.

Wilson had his second and the Shrews' third just five minutes later. John McAtee's low cross from the right was palmed away by the Shakers' goalkeeper Rhys Williams before Wilson lashed home the loose ball low from close range.

Bury had the chance to pull one back at the other end as defender Liam Williams crossed from the left to find fellow centre back Tom Carlton on the far side, but the latter volleyed just over the crossbar.

The visitors were then denied by the post in the 41st minute as George Miller found space on the left before firing high against the woodwork.

And Town were able to take a comfortable lead into the break.

HALF-TIME: Shrewsbury Town 3-0 Bury

There were few chances after the break despite the visitors putting pressure on Shrewsbury to pull one back.

Their best chance saw Robert Bourne's free-kick from a central position drop just wide of the right post.
