Micky Mellon On Wigan Defeat

Manager Insists Town Must Move On Quickly

Micky said: "He's done his knee. We'll see how he is over the next few days."

Junior Brown limped off with a knee problem early in the second half with Mat Sadler his replacement.

"I'm here to work with the boys to keep continually improving them and that's what I'll continue to do.

"We'll kick on. We'll put things into context with certain things that happened in the game and we'll look at the things we believed we did well and we'll try and put all of that together.

“So that made it more difficult for us.

“But it put us in a really difficult position against a team like Wigan.

On the red card awarded to Zak Whitbread in the second half, Micky said: “I don’t know if the referee saw he was the last man - if that’s the case, I can’t argue with that.

“Then we lost a runner from a throw-in, then we conceded a goal from a corner, then we were down to 10 men and by then it was going to be tough for us."

“It was very even and even in the second half we started really well in the first 10 minutes.

“So we’ve got to dust ourselves down very quickly.

“It was one of those where you have to move on very quickly, and realise we’ve been very good for nine games and an hour.

“But I thought up to about an hour we were fine, then pretty much everything that could go against did.

“It’s difficult because we’re professionals and we want to win games," said Micky.

And the Latics showed their class in the second half by scoring four.

A first-half goal from Sullay Kaikai was cancelled out by a spectacular volley from Wigan's Conor McAleny.

Manager Micky Mellon insists Shrewsbury Town must move on quickly from their defeat to Wigan Athletic.
