"The youngsters had a fantastic time. We look forward to holding further events in the future."

Lance Corporal Lee Doyle, a Level 2 FA Coach who works on the unit with the Military Provost Guard Service, said: "We would like to thank RAF Shawbury for allowing us to use their facilities.

"It was a different kind of soccer school to the regular ones but the two days were enjoyed by all."

Thomas Peevor, community sports development manager for Shrewsbury Town in the Community, said:

The scheme provided training to 28 youngsters from RAF Shawbury and also the surrounding area and was hugely successful.

Luckily, the weather improved for the second day and training went ahead on the astroturf pitch adjacent to the Jubilee Hall Sports Centre.

Due to bad weather, training on the first day was held in the Roland Wycherley Force Development Centre.

The camps involved training youngsters basic football skills in a fun-filled couple of days.

The two training camps were held at RAF Shawbury on 7 and 8 April with funding provided by the Armed Forces Community Covenant.

Military personnel at RAF Shawbury joined forces with Shrewsbury Town in the Community to provide a two-day football training camp for children on the Soccer Schools.
