Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for March
Shrewsbury Town midfielder Sullay Kaikai has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for March.
Five goals from five games after re-joining on loan from Crystal Palace, one as a second-half substitute, triggered Shrewsbury’s climb out of the bottom four. A stunning dribble and shot against Port Vale showcased his directness and eye for goal.
Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon said: “I’m absolutely delighted for him, it’s thoroughly deserved – everyone associated with the football club will vouch for that.
“It’s just reward for a fantastic month from a great young player. He’s a talented lad and got a very promising future ahead of him.”
Kaikai said: “I'm honoured and excited to have won such a prestigious award.
“It’s been a good month for me but also a decent one for the club and hopefully we can continue to pick up points this month.
“I’m enjoying my time at Shrewsbury and the award is recognition for all the hard work that all of the team has put it.
“The fans have been great to me since I have come back to the club and our aim is to continue to give them football that they can be proud of.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “To score five goals from midfield in one month as Kaikai has done is an outstanding achievement.
“The Shrews have made a marked improvement in recent weeks, going unbeaten in March and his contributions went a long way towards that terrific achievement.”
Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “After going back to his parent club over the winter months, Shrewsbury brought Kaikai back into the side for the month of March and he is a deserving winner of the award this month.
“The team were unbeaten in March with the young attacking midfielder scoring in all but one of the matches during the month. He notched in four straight games during March, which would have made for a nice 125/1 accumulator.”
