Micky Mellon makes the two changes to thee side that started against Coventry City with Ian Black and Olly Lancashire coming in for Antoni Sarcevic and Ethan Jones.


It was the home side who had the first good chance after Nicky Ajose got the ball and skipped across the edge of the box, he was looking for the angle for a shot and when he found it he drove in a low one but Leutwiler was equal to it with good diving save to nick the ball around the post.


Town were creating good openings and positive play saw them win a corner on the 6 minute mark. The ball was delivered to the nearpost and there was McGivern to flick the ball on but no one had gambled for an easy tap in.


On 10 minutes Charlton had another good chance after new signing Magennis got in front of McGivern and in on goal, he had only Leutwiler to beat but the Town keeper stood up strong and pulled off an important block to deny the home side the lead.


It was Charlton who got their noses in front on 21 minutes after Ricky Holmes had picked the ball out on the left, he can infield and curled in a worldy of a shot that flew into the top far corner giving Leutwiler no chance.


Charlton doubled their lead minutes later after the ball was crossed in from the left, it dropped in the box and Ajose tried his luck, Leutwiler saved but couldn't hold on, another shot came in which was blocked and it then dropped to Johnnie Jackson who smashed the ball into the Town net from close range to make it 2-0 to the home side.


Town were trying to build and create down around the Charlton goal and Dodds played a good ball for Toney but the Charlton defence nicked in and hit Town with he counter, Magennis nicked the ball off El-Abd and drove towards goal, he cut the ball back for Ajose but McGivern had read it well and cleared.


Charlton got a third goal on 31 minutes and it was a second for Ricky Holmes, he took Charlton's corner and whipped a good delivery into the box, he had the height to beat everyone in the area and drop into the goal at the backpost to make it 3-0.


Town created a decent opening after Toney got the ball and pushed forward, he put it wide to Riley who took a touch and then played a good ball for Toney to run onto, he pushed into the box, switched the ball onto his right and got a shot in, but it lacked pace and Rudd was down to save.


Town created another good chances after O'Brien thread a nice ball to find Brown on the edge of the box, he turned nicely and fed Toney who found space in the box, he got a good low shot in on goal but Rudd was down quickly to pull off a great save.


Half-time: 3-0


There were no changes for either side at the break and it was Town who had the first sight of goal after the restart. Lancashire beat Magennis in the air and the ball dropped to O'Brien, he took the ball forward and hit a long range shot in on goal but it lacked the pace to trouble Rudd in the Charlton net.


Town were looking bright and creating good openings around the edge of the Charlton box, they were keeping possession and patiently looking for the opening. Deegan played it crossfield to Black, he looked for options and put it to Toney on the edge of the box, he set the ball for Dodds who curled a good looking shot from the edge of the box that dipped just over the bar.


With half an hour of the game remaining Micky Mellon made his first change of the evening handing a Town debut for George Waring, Olly Lancashire was the one to make way with Town looking like a change of formation going to 4-4-2.


The ball dropped to Magennis and he looked to come in field, he took the ball past El-Abd and the Town skipper got hold of the Charlton man's shirt, and picked up a booking and gave away a free-kick.


On 67 minutes Micky Mellon made a double change with Jim O'Brien and Louis Dodds making way for Shaun Whalley and a Town debut for Moha Choulay as the visitors looked to get something out of the game.


Town were creating openings still and getting into good areas around the Charlton box but the home side were doing their best to keep a clean sheet.


The ball came to Ricky Holmes 25 yards from the Town goal, he fired in a long range effort that Leutwiler did well to save, but he couldn't hold onto the ball and it dropped to Ajose but luckily for Town he smashed it over the bar with only the Town keeper to beat.


Deegan played a good ball into the Charlton box towards Waring, he flicked it onto find Whalley, he took a touch and then fired the ball across the face of goal for Toney who got a foot to it but turned it wide under pressure from the home defence.


Toney chased down the ball and challenge Fox for the ball, the Charlton player stayed down and ref Ward was quickly over pointing to various places around the pitch suggesting previous fouls from Toney and booked the forward.


Town were still pushing for a goal and good play down the left saw Brown drive a low ball into the Charlton box for Toney, the ball was just behind him but he managed to get a shot in but it was just wide of the target.
