Micky Mellon goes with the same team that started Saturday's 1-0 defeat to MK Dons. New Signing Ivan Toney starts on the bench after being cleared to play by Newcastle and Ian Black returns from suspension.

Town took an early lead with just 23 seconds on the clock when AJ Leitch-Smith fired home. Some good work by Jim O'Brien and Joe Riley on the right led to Riley pulling the ball back to Leitch-Smith, who turned smartly before firing a deflected shot past Danny Ward from 10 yards.

Huddersfield could have levelled just four minutes later when former Southend United midfielder Jack Payne found himself in acres of space behind the Town defence, but his shot went wide of Jayson Leutwiler's left hand post.

Payne continued to cause problems for the Town defence and nearly equalised on 13 minutes when he turned away from Adam El-Abd and Ryan McGivern before getting his shot away, which was saved by the legs of Leutwiler.

After a frantic opening quarter of an hour the game finally began to find a pattern with the Championship side dominating possession, as Town tried to cause problems on the break.

Huddersfield continued to knock on the door, but were restricted to shots from distance as El-Abd and McGivern remained strong at the heart of the Town back four.

The Terriers finally got the equaliser they deserved on 38 minutes when Australia international Aaron Mooy found space down the Shrewsbury right and put over a perfectly weighted ball for Elias Kachunga, who headed home from close range.

Half Time: 1-1

Both sides made changes at the break with Ivan Toney replacing AJ Leitch-Smith upfront for Town, whilst Huddersfield brought on Ivan Paurevic for Jonathan Hogg.

Town again came out of the blocks well and could have restored their lead just a minute after the interval when Shaun Whalley's run and pass found Louis Dodds. His shot on the turn went through the legs of Danny Ward, but it didn't have the power and Ward managed to scramble back and collect.

Rajiv Van La Parra then went close for The Terriers as he cut inside before unleashing a powerful shot which went just wide of the left hand post.

Jayson Leutwiler was then forced into a fine save from substitute Kasey Palmer's free kick, but the Swiss goalkeeper was up to the task, diving to his left.

With just over quarter of an hour to go Micky Mellon made his second change of the evening as Ethan Jones replaced Shaun Whalley.

Jones made an instant impact as he ran 40 yards down the right hand side before pulling the ball back for Ivan Toney who in turn found Louis Dodds and his shot couldn't be kept out by Ward in the Huddersfield goal.

Abu Ogogo replaced goalscorer Dodds straight after the goal, as Micky Mellon looked to hold onto the lead.

Town almost made things more comfortable on 85 minutes, as Ethan Jones once again ran half the length of the field before feeding Toney who couldn't manage to get the right connection as he bore down on goal.

Huddersfield almost equalised with 3 minutes to go, but Kachunga's acrobatic effort was well saved by Leutwiler.

Town looked to settle it on the break as first the impressive Jones tested Ward, before Ivan Toney found himself one on one and was also denied.
