Town follow top clubs with new PMA system

Town’s academy set up has progressed hugely so far this season, especially with the introduction of the PMA system – a tool that is used by all of the country’s biggest clubs.

Launched this year, the database allows players access to a wide range of feedback and analysis to aid their progress, and academy manager Andy Jones has been explaining just how it works.

“The PMA system is something that’s been in a lot of the professional clubs up and down the country, the category one clubs and even the twos and threes in the last few seasons.

“We’ve launched it this year, which is an online system for the players to read the reviews that the coaches have wrote, to see their fitness test scores, to have opinions on their own performances.”

The system will not just benefit the players, as it will also prove to be a valuable tool for the academy coaches.

Jones said: “For us, the staff to document certain things, potentially when we film games for them to go and watch back in their own time.”

Jones believes that whilst there will be some initial problems as the system gets up and running, it will prove highly beneficial in the coming years.

“It’s sort of an online account diary, it’ll have a few teething problems this season because it’s been an absolute monster job to get all of the information on there, but we’re getting there and it’ll take a year or so until it’s running properly.

“I think the players and parents and staff will get the benefits of that as it’s just a more streamlined approach to the system.”
