Shrewsbury Town and the Community come together for a fabulous night
Shrewsbury Town and the community came together at the Abbey on Monday night for this year’s Christmas Carol Concert. In attendance were members of the Town first team, staff, Ladies and youth players, who were joined by choirs ‘Of One Accord’ and that of Mereside Primary School.
Readings were made by Harri Lovett (Youth Team), Olivia Minshall (Ladies), Paul Hurst (Manager), Adam El-Abd (Captain) and Mal Starkey (Club President) as the concert celebrated the 200th anniversary of the popular Christmas carol Silent Night.
Being involved in community events such as this is something that Town boss Hurst feels is very important for the club, highlighted by his visit to watch final preparations for Meole Brace Primary School’s nativity play.
The Town boss met the children at Holy Trinity Church earlier this month, and after watching rehearsals he stuck around for a question and answer session with pupils.
He said ahead of the concert: “I want to be part of the football club and the wider community.
“It’s not always easy in terms of time constraints and ultimately the thing I need to concentrate on first and foremost is putting a team on the pitch that the community are proud of.
“But at the same time when the opportunities arise, [the aim] is to meet new people whether it’s myself or the playing staff, or the football club generally.
“We want to do that, this football club is a big part of the community.”
