Wilson Brace Fires Shrewsbury To FTDL Victory
FULL-TIME: Shrewsbury Town 2-1 Morecambe
But Town were comfortable winners in the end.
At the other end, Jones poked an effort against the post while on the floor inside the final ten minutes.
Dawson curled an unstoppable, curling free-kick in off the crossbar from around 25 yards out to halve the deficit.
Morecambe pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute in spectacular fashion.
After the break, Jones again went close with low shot. He then pulled the ball back for Wilson whose low shot just skimmed the right post.
HALF-TIME: Shrewsbury Town 2-0 Morecambe.
Jones also beat his man again a minute into added time at the end of the first period but saw a low shot fly just wide of the right post.
The striker beat his man on the left side of the penalty area and his low shot across goal forced a good save from Maher.
Town could have added a third 12 minutes before half-time when Demetriou sent a ball over the top for Jones to chase.
However, Town doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Chris Gallagher sprayed the ball out to Jack Butts on the right, the wing back fed a high ball forward to Wilson and the striker sent a deft lob over Shrimpers goalkeeper Niall Maher to double the Shrews' lead.
Defender Mickey Demetriou also tried his luck from long range with 23 minutes on the clock, but his fierce low shot flew just wide of the left post.
Matt Tootle then saw a low free-kick from the edge of the box parried away two minutes later.
And the Shrews were in front a minute later when Wilson went past his man, into the Morecambe box and saw a shot loop up and in off the goalkeeper.
Shrewsbury were by far the dominant side and Ethan Jones span and shot over from the edge of the box in the 15th minute after the ball was worked upfield.
The second-year scholar struck twice in the first half in the game at Lilleshall National Sports centre to earn Town the win, despite the Shrimps pulling a goal back in the second half through a stunning Paul Dawson free-kick.
A brace from Jordan Wilson fired Shrewsbury Town to victory over Morecambe in the Final Third Development League's West Division on Tuesday afternoon.
