Zak Whitbread post Blackpool

Defender pleased with another away win for Town

Zak Whitbread was elated after Shrewsbury’s 3-2 win at Blackpool. The defender felt the team did well to earn all 3 points at Bloomfield Road: “We showed great character to hold on. We stood up as a team and did very well to see it out. It is a massive three points for us. We had a game plan and we stuck to it. We came out nice and lively and troubled Blackpool. We played smarter than we usually do and we need to keep doing that now for the rest of the season. It was disappointing to concede before half time and then the second goal for them made it a difficult finish.”

The 31-year-old was impressed by the acrobatic finish of Nathaniel Knight-Percival to open the scoring: “I have never seen anything from Nathaniel Knight-Percival like the goal he scored today! Usually he is hoofing the ball up making clearances but today he has put it in the top corner brilliantly, it was a fantastic overhead kick!”

The former Derby County defender believes the whole team played their part in the win: “Jayson Leutwiler kept us in front with some solid saves. He has won us points on his own this season and it is great as a defender to have a quality keeper like him behind you. The forward players showed their ability today and they created lots of chances. Everyone played a part today to get the win.”
