Micky On New Signings

8 January 2016

Manager On Wellens Deal and Vassell Loan

"I have known Richie for a very long time," said Micky.

"He is a real talent. I want a player to come in and fit the Ryan Woods role and I feel Wellens will link-up between the back and front players very well.

"His passing and technical ability is fantastic. He is a leader and a great guy so when I heard he was available I was delighted to get it over the line."

Wellens arrives having left Doncaster Rovers at the start of January.

"Kyle (Vassell) is someone I have known from my Fleetwood days," said Micky.

"We watched him a lot in the non-leagues. He hasn’t scored as much as he would have wanted at Peterborough but he hasn’t had the opportunity either for various reasons.

"I am pleased he is here because he is a real threat. He can strike with both feet and has bags of energy and he is buzzing to come in and get going."

Both players will be cup-tied for Sunday's Emirates FA Cup trip to Cardiff City, but Micky is just pleased to have two of his targets on board now.

Town have completed the loan signing of striker Kyle Vassell from Peterborough United and the permanent acquisition of midfielder Richie Wellens on an 18-month deal.

Manager Micky Mellon is pleased to have added another two faces to his Shrewsbury Town squad on Friday afternoon.
