FULL-TIME: Shrewsbury Town 1-0 Port Vale

In the end, the Shrews held on for a good three points.

At the other end, Town could have doubled their lead with 20 minutes to go but Wilson shot over from close range when Rammell's corner was headed down.

Aftet the restart, Vale went even closer to an equaliser in the 63rd minute when Mike Cunlon got in on the inside right and Bannister came out to make a superb stop.

HALF-TIME: Shrewsbury Town 1-0 Port Vale

But there was only one goal in it at the break.

There was also another chance for Port Vale ten minutes before the break as Alex Morris crossed low and Charlie Walford saw an effort deflect wide.

At the other end, with 20 minutes on the clock, King pulled the ball back from the left and McAtee fired over first-time from just inside the box.

The Valiants' first chance came in the 18th minute when Charlie Bannister got down to hold Liam Mottram's low strike.

However, McAtee did grab the opener in the 14th minute when Mathew Jones played him into the box with a short free-kick before he fired low into the far corner from the right.

McAtee then went even closer to the opener when Kenton crossed at mid-height from the right and the striker saw an acrobatic effort in the penalty area parried away by Vale goalkeeper Calum Ferrie.

Shrewsbury got the game underway and had the game's first chance in the sixth minute when Kenton crossed low from the right, Hassall turned in the box and saw a low strike deflect wide for a corner.
