Micky Mellon pre Stourbridge

25 July 2016

Gaffer’s thoughts before this evenings trio to Stourbridge

Town make the short trip to Stourbridge for the penultimate match of the pre-season.

It will be another good test for the Town side against a decent Stourbridge side who just missed out on promotion last season.

Micky Mellon is looking to get the game minutes under the players belts and will probably start the game with the players who finished the game at Solihull Moors on Saturday.

“We will try and build up the minutes again and get that important game time under their belts”, said Micky.

“The ones that need minutes we will add to that and give them more time on the pitch.

“What we are trying to do is get everyone as fit as we possibly can as we look to the start of the season.

“It won’t be many of the ones who did the first hour at Solihull but possibly the ones who did the last half hour to try and build up their game time up to get 60 to 75 minutes.”

Stourbridge are managed by Gary Hackett who played a big part in Town’s success in the 1980’s, and played with Micky Mellon at West Brom.  They had arranged the game a few weeks ago but the Stourbridge is now out of the country on holiday.

“Gaz has gone away on holiday to Spain, I said to him I’ll bring a team down to play you and he phoned the other week to say he would be away on holiday”, added Micky.

“We’ll go down and see the team he’s created and he can keep up to date on the game on Twitter.

“I’ll catch up with him soon and hope he’s enjoying the sunshine while he’s away.”
