Staff side edge the annual eve of pre-season game at Sentinel

A Town staff XI led by manager Micky Mellon made the short trip over to Sundourne to take on a Sentinel Cricket Club XI.

Town kitman Dave Ashlin has close connections with the cricket club and for the second year in succession the game took place ahead of the first game of the pre-season campaign.

The game saw each side bat for 12 overs and it was the Sentinel side who went took to the crease first.

Following some good bowling and fielding from the Town side they restricted the Sentinel side to a score of 65 runs from their 12 overs.

Town went into bat but the early lose of three wickets gave the home side confidence as they looked to restrict the Town run rate.  Physio Chris Skitt and performance analyst Michael Vernon steadied the innings with impressive scores and it was academy coach Ian Sharps who hitting the winning run to give Town the win.

After the game Town keeper Jayson Leutwiler was on hand as the club presented their young players with awards following their recent cricket courses.

A lovely way to spend a summers evening and the weather was lovely as well.
