"I would say I could finish, I’m comfortable on the ball and I can create chances and score goals," he said.

"I can play as a number ten or a number nine, so I think I’m quite flexible at that.

"I want to do well for the team, score goals and help Shrewsbury climb the table."

And the 26-year-old believes he can grab goals for the Shrews next season.

Leitch-Smith already knows some of the players in the Town squad having played with Louis Dodds, Ryan McGivern, Antoni Sarcevic and Junior Brown in the past.

"I’m just glad to finally get the deal done," Leitch-Smith told shrewsburytown.com.

"The gaffer’s very ambitious and so are the type of players he is bringing in at the minute so it looks like we are going to have a good squad next year, so there were quite a few factors that drew me here in the end.

"Micky (Mellon) told me about his plans and where he sees the club going, the type of people he wants to bring in and it all fitted into somewhere where I would like to go and we finally got it done.

"I did have quite a bit of interest and had a few offers as well but, in the end, this was the place for me.”

And the striker now cannot wait to get the next chapter of his career started at Greenhous Meadow.

Leitch-Smith, born in Crewe, started his career with his hometown club and made over 100 appearances for the Alex.

The 26-year-old, who scored 13 times for Port Vale in all competitions last season, becomes manager Micky Mellon's sixth signing of the summer.

Shrewsbury Town is delighted to announce the signing of striker AJ Leitch-Smith on a two-year deal.
