Whalley thought's after 2-0 home win over Rochdale
Shaun Whalley was ecstatic after Shrewsbury comfortably dispatched Rochdale 2-0 at home:“I thought we were brilliant tonight. We had a high tempo from kick off and our passing and movement was great. We thoroughly deserved our lead at half time and the defence and Jayson Leutwiler were fantastic in the second half to keep Rochdale out. It is alright being on top but you have to take your chances when you get them and we did exactly that tonight.”
“We had quality and it was brilliant to pay the fans back who came to watch. We have been poor at home but we couldn’t have played much better in that game. I was delighted to get the goal and the manager got the tactics spot on tonight and he deserves a lot of credit.”
The 28-year-old feels the squad are in great spirits after the win:
“The lads have stayed positive all season but recently we have been doing really well. We are unbeaten in four in the league now and I think we can push on from here and do even better for sure. We are full of confidence and buzzing for the next game.”
The striker was pleased with his own performance and feels he is in the form of his career:
“I was happy with how I played tonight and I love the role I was given by the gaffer. I will be aiming for top scorer this season and I think I can get it too! I haven’t always been as focused on football as I should be but I am now and I am working as hard as I can for my family and my career and I think it shows.”
“I feel like I am at the peak of my career and I feel sharp and I just hope it stays like this. I have grown up now and I am mature and doing well but the most important thing is the team does well. If you do the right things you will get the rewards and I feel like I am getting that at the minute.”
Whalley believes the positive result can be the start of a good run of form at the Greenhous Meadow:
“It is nice to get that monkey off our back now by winning at home. If we keep playing like tonight then we won’t have to worry. We set up so well tonight and flew out the traps and we need to make sure we continue that and perform as a team in the future. I have looked at the league table and I know it is close down the bottom but we need to focus on ourselves. If we win our games then our fate will be in our own hands.”
