TNS Claim 2-1 Win Over Town In SFA Final

The TNS striker kept on getting in behind the Town defence and was again denied by Cleveley in the 23rd minute.

Ridge was then denied by the crossbar in the 16th minute as she looked to chip Cleveley from the edge of the box.

She made a superb save high at her near post to deny Emily Ridge when the striker was played in one-on-one.

TNS continuted to threaten going forward but Shrewsbury goalkeeper Beth Cleveley was equal to the task.

However, Town responded less than a minute later as Danni Smith found the net with a strike from over 25 yards out on the left which flew over the goalkeeper.

TNS took an eighth-minute lead when Charlotte Turner headed into her own net from Laura Morris' free-kick from the left side of the box.

Town got the game underway on a warm evening at Greenhous Meadow, attacking the Salop Leisure Stand in the first half.

FIRST HALF

However, Ridge, who was a constant threat throughout, grabbed the winner after rounding Town goalkeeper Beth Cleveley.

TNS Took an early lead through a Charlotte Turner own goal but Town hit back immediately through Danni Smith.

An Emily Ridge tap-in in the second half was enough to give The New Saints Ladies success in the final at Greenhous Meadow.

Shrewsbury Town Ladies were narrowly beaten in the Tom Farmer Shropshire Women's County Cup final on Thursday evening.

Town continued to push for an equaliser but were unable to find it, or their ninth success in the competition since it started.

Shrewsbury had a chance to level less than a minute later when Danni Smith drove forward on the inside left but shot low and wide of the left post from 20 yards.

And the striker, TNS' top scorer this season, finally found luck as she raced in behind the Town defence in the 64th minute, went around the oncoming Cleveley and slotted into the empty net from 18 yards out.

Ridge continued to cause problems for the Town defence as she again got in behind, this time in the 57th minute, but she dragged her shot wide of the far post from just outside the box.

TNS got the second period underway with Shrewsbury attacking the Pro-Vision CCTV Stand.
