Brian Caldwell On Manager Search

Latest update from CEO on the work to bring in new manager

Brian Caldwell admitted that he wanted to sing along with fans today calling for managerial appointment, and that everybody is working as hard as they can to make it happen.

Town are now without a win in 10 after Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to Northampton at Greenhous Meadow, and fans were heard throughout voicing their frustration at the current situation.

But Caldwell has said that the feeling on the terraces is no different to that being felt in the boardroom.

“We’re as frustrated as the supporters, we can totally understand where they’re coming from.

“We probably wanted to join in the singing when they were singing ‘we want a manager’, because we want a manager too, but unfortunately for us, we haven’t been able to get it over the line as we speak.

“We’re all feeling it, the chairman said to me that he wants to sing too, when supporters are singing that.”

The frustration has been building, as it has now been over two weeks since Micky Mellon left the club, and Caldwell has moved to reassure supporters that everything possible is being done to make an appointment as soon as possible.

“It’s a hard day for everybody, we’re all hurting. We all want a manager in as quickly as possible.

Caldwell continued: “We are all working really hard to try and get a manager in place for everybody, for the supporters, for the team.

“It’s been just over two weeks now but it feels like two months to be honest, it’s frustrating, it’s very frustrating.”

The CEO can also see the effect that the situation is having on the pitch, as Town were convincingly beaten at home on Saturday.

“You can see it in the players as well, the lack of confidence, the leadership that they’re looking for. They hear the supporters sing what they’re singing and that must take its toll as well, which is disappointing for everybody’s sake.”

Caldwell also admits that he has never experienced anything like this before when being involved with a football club.

“We’re in the situation where it’s dragged on longer than we all wanted it to be, and that’s through nobody’s fault but circumstances dictate that.

“I’ve never known anything like this before in my life, where the frustrations have been over the past two weeks.

“It’s been just over two weeks now but it feels like two months to be honest, it’s frustrating, it’s very frustrating.”
