Two Town players set to represent their country

Two of Town’s defenders have been picked for international duty with Ryan McGivern unavailable for the Checkatrade Trophy game against Scunthorpe United and the trip to Bradford City.

McGivern has been recalled by Northern Ireland for the their World Cup qualifying games with San Marino and Germany, whilst Dom Smith, who is on loan at Barrow, is once again in the Welsh U21 squad for their EUFA U21 qualifier with Armenia.

Micky Mellon is pleased for the players and for the recognition the club is getting.

“It’s good news for the players and great for the football club that we have two players away on international duty”, said Micky.

“We will be without Ryan for the Scunthorpe and Bradford games, which is a shame, but it provides another chance for him to impress on the international stage.

“We’ve been really pleased with how Ryan is getting on and it is nice to see he is being recognised for his performances with us. I’m sure he will enjoy travelling with the Northern Ireland squad and it will help continue his development.

“With Dom, he’s been playing regularly at Barrow, which is exactly what we wanted and getting called up for the Under-21’s gives him another chance to experience football in a different country.”
