Shrewsbury Town players enjoy success on the international stage

Shrewsbury Town players have once again made their mark on the international stage.

Three Town players joined up with their respective countries this week as international duty took centre stage.

Wales Under-21 International Dom Smith played the full 90 minutes as they beat Armenia Under-21’s 3-1 in Yerevan on Tuesday.

The former Belvedere School pupil, who is currently on loan at Barrow, played at centre-half alongside Manchester United’s Regan Poole in what was a comfortable victory for the young dragons.

Youth Team midfielder Chris Gallagher played in all three of Northern Ireland Under-19s games in their UEFA Under-19 Championship Qualifiers in Poland.

Gallagher’s side lost their opening group game to Slovakia 1-0, before beating Macedonia 2-1, but a 1-0 defeat in their final group game against hosts Poland means that they will not make it through to the Elite qualifying stages next year.

Meanwhile, Town defender Ryan McGivern was an unused substitute in both of Northern Ireland’s World Cup Qualifying games as they beat San Marino 4-0, before losing 2-0 to World Cup holders Germany.

McGivern will now come back into contention for Saturday’s game with Walsall.
