Micky Mellon talks about injured players

Micky Mellon has given an update as to how Town’s injured players are getting on.
Shaun Whalley came off the bench against Bury, but Junior Brown, Jim O’Brien, Ian Black and AJ Leitch-Smith all missed out.
But, Micky is hopeful that Junior’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared.
“We know he’s not got a broken ankle and that’s a relief, because right at the very end of the session (on Friday) he’s gone up for a set play and he’s come down and he’s landed on one of the lads’ legs and he’s gone over on his ankle,” said Micky.
“It’s not as bad as we first thought, so we’ll hope to get him back quickly. He’s not trained today and if there was a game today or tomorrow he wouldn’t play in it, but he’s certainly getting better.”
Jim O’Brien continues to struggle with a groin injury, but Ian Black and AJ Leitch Smith have both returned to training this week.
“Jim pulled out on Friday, so he’s not trained. Ian Black’s trained today and he’s fine, so he’ll get a week’s training under his belt. AJ’s trained today.
“There’s a few bumps and bruises. Ivan Toney has taken a sore whack, he’s not trained today, he’s got a sore ankle. Joe Riley’s got a sore knee, that’s blown up a little bit.
“So, we’ve got a few injuries at the minute, but that’s why you have a squad,” added Micky.
Meanwhile, first year pro Callum Grogan continues to recover from a thigh problem.
“He’s still injured. He’s got a thigh problem that’s recurring. He was training with Skitty this morning on the grass, but he’s not joined in with us yet, so he will continue to try and get over his thigh injury.”
